In our world, every resource is limited. There’s shortage of houses, money, dates, jobs and educational opportunities. There’s not enough time to calmly get ready for work in the morning, or to catch up on reading in the evening. Lately, it seems there aren’t enough choices in politicians we can elect or cars we can afford.

In a word, there’s just less.

That of course is simply an illusion. An illusion based on a belief that resources are not limitless, and we must out-compete get our own piece. And the sooner the better because time is at a premium, too.

That is until you realize that it’s all simply an illusion. There are actually plenty to go around, and they make more and more every day! There is absolutely no need to outdoo anyone else to get what you want. It’s there, litterally – it’s sitting there and waiting for you to get there and claim it.

There is no one to conquer, outdo, outwit or outrun. If you’re in doubt, a quick glance around will prove it: you’re still doing just fine. You don’t have to worry more about more stuff.

If there is something, anything, that you feel you are missing – it is only because you got in your own way.

It could be your lack of ambition, your beliefs or your expectations. It just as well could be your lack of knowledge or unwillingness to learn or improve a sill. It might even be a choice you made on the incorrect information you accepted from someone else in good faith. It could be anything and everything you did.

And it is always, always a consequence of an action you took.

It is never because of something you didn’t do.

The reverse is also true: if you missed something, it is almost always because you didn’t take an action of some kind.

Counter intuitively, this works even better with bigger things, more risqué situations and often exactly when you perceive a lack or shortage of a resource.

And I hope that next time you find yourself in a competition of sorts, you’ll remember that the only person in your way to success is you. If you can conquer yourself, your fears, and act – you will win. Every time.
